Posted on

On May 10, 2013, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that expanded outdoor smokefree areas will be in effect within state parks and historic sites for the 2013 peak summer season. View the Governor’s press release or get a list of specific parks and recreational areas covered by the regulation issued by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Read a May 20, 2013Legislative Gazette news article about the issued regulation.

Per the list, the state parks in New York City’s five boroughs will be all smokefree except for bordering sidewalks and some parking lots. State smoke-free areas include swimming areas, beach areas, bathhouses, concessions, pavilions, shelters, playgrounds, picnic shelters and places that hold educational programs. No smoking areas will be designated by signage at outdoor locations where smoking is prohibited.
