A Cape May ordinance to ban smoking on all beaches and the promenade passed 1st reading at the October 18 city council meeting

Posted on

The Cape May City Council introduced an ordinance to ban smoking 100% on all beaches and on the town’s promenade. Read the October 19 news article from the Press of Atlantic City and another from the Cape May County Herald. Read the October 10, 2011 news story prior to the introduction of the bill in which GASP’s executive director, Karen Blumenfeld, was interviewed. As Blumenfeld points out, Cape May would be a first for ocean beach bans in the southern part of the shore, although bay beaches in Somers Point, in Atlantic County, and nearby Lower Township, in Cape May County, have banned smoking. A public hearing and final vote will be held at 7pm on November 14, 2011.

Outdoor bans for beaches, parks and recreational areas continue to proliferate around the state. Visit our webpage with more information on Outdoor Smokefree Environments.
