U.S. tobacco giants Lorillard and Reynolds are in talks to merge.

The NY Times reported on July 11, 2014 that Lorillard and Reynolds are in merger talks. It is believed the companies will join forces to capitalize on the electronic smoking device industry, and sell some brands to comply with U.S. antitrust laws, to British Tobacco which is thought to want increased U.S. market share.
