Smokers at 1.5 times higher diabetes risk

On April 13, 2015 ChosunMedia (Korea) reported that The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found:
  • Smokers of more than one pack a day are 1.5 times more likely to get diabetes than non-smokers.
  • For female smokers, the risk is higher.
  • Men who smoked more than 20 cigarettes a day were 45% more at risk than non-smokers, and women nearly two times. S
  • Smokers who quit still have a 30% higher chance of becoming diabetic than those who never smoked.
The  survey from 2001 to 2014 questioned 7,800 people over 40 in Gyeonggi Province.
