Lorillard (Blu e-cigarette) shareholders approve of sale to Reynolds American

Posted on

On July 15, 2014, Reynolds American’s Board of Directors agreed to purchase Lorillard for $27.4 billion, which includes Lorillard’s Blu e-cigarette brand. Lorillard has been the 3rd largest manufacturer of cigarettes in the USA.

On January 20, 2015, Reynolds American shareholders voted to approve of the sale at a special shareholder meeting. The transaction remains subject to regulatory approval and closing conditions, and expects to close in 2015. See Lorillard’s January 20, 2015 press release (note: date error on their press release shows 2014, but should be 2015).

Prior to starting its acquisition by Reynolds American in 2014, Lorillard purchased British-based SKYCIG, a major UK e-cigarette brand, to build its global presence in the e-cigarette market. See Lorillard’s October 1, 2013 press release.
