Gloucester City, NJ bans smoking in Monmouth Street Business District

A new smoking ban took effect on October 14, 2014 in the Monmouth Street Business District, the “Main Street” area of Gloucester City, in Camden County.  The law, passed by the City Council on August 28, 2014 prohibits cigarette smoking and all other forms of tobacco use in any outdoor areas within the boundaries of the railroad tracks to Atlantic Street, along Monmouth Street.  Local officials cite to tobacco litter issues as a leading reason for the new law.   Police can issue warnings and then tickets ranging from $100 to $250 for 1st offense, and $500 to $1,000 for any subsequent offenses.
