FiOS1 News reported on Hackensack’s initial interest in considering an ordinance that would require tobacco and electronic cigarette sale only be for persons 21 year of age and older.  GASP’s Executive Director Karen Blumenfeld, Esq. noted that such policies help reduce access of tobacco to young people and that 90% of people who start smoking do so before age 21.  GASP shared that Teaneck, Englewood and Sayreville, New Jersey have such ordinances in place, as do dozens of towns across the nation.
