CVS Caremark announced that they will no longer sell tobacco products including cigarettes. The announcement is a bold move for this national pharmacy chain as CVS sells $1.5 billion in tobacco products a year. Currently, CVS does not sell electronic cigarettes as they are unregulated by the FDA. In the announcement, CVS President Helena Foulkes stated that the sale of tobacco products in their stores counteracts the company’s promotion of wellness. It is expected that other pharmacies across the nation will follow suit.
